Amplifying and disseminating NYC’s Asian American voices in a space where individuals can find inspiration, validation, and support, with a focus on embracing how each person has a unique relationship with their identity.
issue of focus:
One out of five Asian Americans hide aspects of their cultural identities, some citing fears of embarrassment or discrimination. Younger Asian Americans (ages 18-29) are seven times more likely to do so than those 65 and over¹. In terms of public speaking, less than 25% of National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) members², 16% of Hollywood³, and 1% of politicians identify as Asian American⁴.
what we do:
In accordance with our mission, Asians of NYC will begin public speaking workshops in August 2024 to help develop and empower the voices of Asian American youth through building confidence and encouraging self-expression. Click above for more information about DEVAY (Developing & Empowering Voices of Asian American Youth).
Taking inspiration from @humansofny, Asians of NYC conducts interviews with NYC's Asian Americans to learn more about their personal experiences with their identities and provide an environment for people to share them. View excerpts of our interviews on our Instagram page. Full interviews can be found on the "stories" tab.
